ATS-friendly resume templates, each one scored
We put one resume into each of the eight templates in Skilture's resume builder and ran our ATS check on every PDF. All eight scored 93 to 96 out of 100, in the Excellent band. Two of them print the summary without a heading, which costs a few points.

Leafish and Tech print your summary without a heading, so the check finds one section fewer (95 of 100 on section headings). For comparison, the same resume as a plain one-column PDF scored 93.

What makes a template ATS-friendly
The same five things our checker scores, applied to a template.
- Real text, not an image (25%)
- Every template prints selectable text.
- Headings a parser recognises (25%)
- Experience, Education, Skills. A heading on the summary counts too; two of our templates leave it off.
- Contact details as text in the page body (20%)
- Not inside an image or a page header.
- Consistent structure (15%)
- One date format, bullet points, skills as a list.
- Enough content (15%)
- The template can't add this. Your words do.
What this test can't tell you
Our check reads resumes the way a parser does, and it read every template, including the two-column ones, without losing text. Employers use many different ATS products, and we can't test those. - How do I convert my resume to an ATS-friendly format for free?
- Import it into Skilture's resume builder (PDF or Word), check each field the import fills, pick a template and download the PDF. Then check the new file with the free ATS checker. The import runs in your browser, and the Professional and Modern templates download without an account.
- Are Skilture's resume templates ATS-friendly?
- On our ATS check, yes: all eight scored 93 to 96 out of 100 with the same resume. Leafish and Tech print the summary without a heading, which costs a few points. We can't test every employer's ATS.
- Is the resume builder free?
- Yes. Importing, editing and downloading with the Professional or Modern template need no account. The other six templates need you to sign in (free). Without an account your resume is saved in this browser only, so sign in to keep a copy.
- Can I download my resume as a Word file?
- Yes, as one plain Word layout, free with no account. In our test it scored 97 against 94 for the same resume as a PDF, and kept names in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada and Chinese exactly. Use it when an application asks for Word.
