Resume Format for Freshers: One Page, Six Sections, Checked

A one-page resume format for Indian freshers: what goes in each section, where your marks and projects go, and how to check it reads in an ATS.

3 min read

Short answer. A fresher resume fits on one page and has six parts, in this order: contact details, a two-line summary, education, projects, skills, and internships or other experience. Put the section you are strongest in nearest the top. Use plain headings and a single column, then run it through a free ATS check before you apply.

The format, section by section

  1. Contact details: name, phone, email, city, and a LinkedIn or GitHub link if you have one. As plain text at the top of the page, not in an image or the document header. Our checker gives contact details 20% of the score, and it can't read a Word page header (one test resume scored 96 with contact details in the body and 74 with them in the header).
  2. Summary: two lines: what you studied, what you want to do, one thing you have built. Give it a heading ("Summary").
  3. Education: degree, college, year, and CGPA or percentage, whichever your college uses. If the job post or placement form asks for 10th and 12th marks, add them here as one line each.
  4. Projects: for most freshers this is the strongest section. Two or three projects, each with what it does, what you used, and one number (users, data size, accuracy, time saved).
  5. Skills: a plain list. Only skills a project or internship above shows.
  6. Experience: internships, part-time work, freelance work. If you have none, put your biggest project here under a heading named "Experience": parsers, including ours, look for that heading.

Photo, date of birth, declaration

Leave them off unless the application asks. They use space a recruiter would rather spend on projects, and none of them helps a parser read the page.

One page or two?

One. Keep a second page for when you have work experience to fill it.

Format checklist before you send it

  • Single column, real text (you can select it in the PDF).
  • Headings: Summary, Education, Projects, Skills, Experience.
  • One date format throughout ("Jun 2025").
  • Saved as PDF unless the application asks for Word.

Make it in the builder, then check it

Skilture's resume builder has this structure built in. The Professional template downloads with no account. Then check the PDF with the free ATS checker: two checks a day without an account. Choosing a layout? See all eight templates, each scored.
